Jock Macdonald (1897-1960)

Jock Macdonald ( James Williamson Galloway Macdonald ) was born in Scotland and immigrated to Vancouver in 1927, worked with Fred Varley at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. In 1946 he showed his automatic watercolours at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Moved to Toronto the following year and worked at the Ontario College of Art.  While an instructor at the college in 1951 he was an enormous help to the young William Ronald with encouragement and financial help.
